Branding for REWIND, an imaginary festival, celebrating 40 years of the VMAs.
REWIND is a conceptual festival dedicated to honoring the 40th anniversary of the Video Music Awards. The aim of this project was to create an immersive experience that serves as an archival time capsule, capturing the essence of the awards' most defining moments over the years. I sought to evoke the dynamic and celebratory nature of pop music. The color palette was selected to reflect the vibrancy and energy of the music industry, using bold, striking colors to highlight key moments in the history of the VMAs. These colors were for their visual impact, as well as, their ability to convey the excitement and significance of each moment being commemorated.
The branding embraces a DIY approach, incorporating elements that appear collaged together. This intentional design choice creates a nostalgic, scrapbook-like quality that pays tribute to the show's evolution over the decades. By combining these elements, the festival’s aesthetic becomes a visual homage to the VMAs, celebrating its rich history while engaging audiences in a uniquely personal and creative way.
